Cindy Berry
Cindy Woods Berry was born in Houston, Texas, and attended Houston Baptist University. She started taking piano lessons from her church organist when she was six years old. She started composing original songs when she was a teenager. Her first writing venture was an original song for her girls’ sextet at her church. But writing/composing was more of a hobby until 1983, when she felt that God was “calling her” to write. Her goal in writing is to always present her music as an offering of praise and worship to God.
Cindy loves the diversity of writing for children and adults, and arranging for piano. Her anthems and piano collections are found in the catalogs of many major publishers. Her works include over 300 choral anthems for adults and children, and about 35 piano collections.
She has received ASCAP Special Awards for many years, and enjoys leading “composer weekends” and conferences throughout the country. She has also led reading sessions for several publishers. She is a recipient of the W. Hines Sims award from the Baptist Church Music Conference.
She feels blessed to have had the opportunity to teach some composition and arranging classes to college and seminary students in Mexico and Ukraine in recent years.
Being active in her local church music ministry has always been important to Cindy. For over forty years, she served in churches, alongside her Minister of Music husband, as church pianist and children’s choir director.
Cindy and Bruce live in Killeen, Texas. They have three wonderful sons and daughters-in-law, and six special grandchildren.
